Indibooks Guide to Buying New and Used Books Online

The Indibooks Guide to Buying Used and New Books Online

There are several auction, marketplace, and commercial bookseller sites selling used and new books on the internet. Indibooks is an Independent bookseller specialising in social work, fostering and adoption books, other sites may sell a range of academic and other books. What should you look out for when buying books online?

  • Don't always trust the photograph of the book - check the publishing year and edition of the book, ask the seller if necessary.

  • If buying from an auction site, check the seller's feedback rating. Most sellers will strive to build and keep a good rating.

  • Check the postage and packing costs - are these included or extra, are they reasonable?

  • Is the seller knowledgeable about the subjects of the books they are selling. Can they advise you?

  • You can often save yourself money by buying an older edition of a book. See the HINT on using older editions on the Indibooks Social Worker, Student Resources page. However, if there have been changes in the law relating to the subject, you need to be aware of these.

  • When comparing prices, check that you are comparing like for like. Is the book an ex-library book or As New? Are there any hidden postage costs - is the seller posting from the UK or the US?

  • Does the seller offer a Returns Policy if you are not satisfied with your purchase?

  • Is the seller offering adequate information about the book for you to make a decision to buy? Can you contact the seller for further information?

  • Will the seller keep you informed about the progress of your order and dispatch your books within a reasonable time period?

Indibooks will:

  • Always state the publishing or printing year, and edition of a book when known

  • Value your custom and your security. You can contact us by email, via the website or by phone

  • Aim to keep costs down and has recently reduced P&P costs and introduced further reductions for multiple purchases

  • Be happy to offer advice and information. Indibooks is run by a fellow social worker and trainer

  • Always state the condition of the book and our Postage and Packing policy can be seen on-site

  • Clearly state a returns policy, which can be viewed on site, and will also assist you with any problems.

  • Provide generous information, including contents where possible

  • Send emails confirming your order, advising you that your order is being processed, when your order is dispatched and when you can expect your book/s to arrive

The Indibooks site also provides information and further resources, some of which are free, to help you study or do your job. We will send offers of discounts and advise you of new stock if you register on-site.

Flower Power is Back!

Flower Power is Back - we've seen the flowery shirts, now it's the age of the flowery T-shirt, courtesy of the Foster Care, Adoption and Chicken T-shirt and Gifts Shop.

Dare to Be Different, Get in touch with Your Feminine Side and buy

a flowery T-shirt, or help support Earth Day (it was the 22.4.07) and buy an organic cotton t-shirt, for which Spreadshirt will donate 3 Euro's to the cause.

Buy a T-shirt inspired by the recent TV programme on John Lennon with the slogan

"All we are Saying is Give Peace a Chance" John Lennon

Sadly, still all too relevant today. - Too young or parents too square to know who he was? Find out!

If you're not into campaigning or flowers - how about a Jazz Smith (Nice!) T-shirt, or one for the drummers.

We even have T-shirts for the chicken crazy

Browse your way over to a selection via the link from the title above, or the sidebar.

Dare to be different!

Adoption Week, More Books, Christmas!

  • The book catalogue is now completely restored, and many books have been reduced in price. There are also some NEW books (not used). Remember that postage is no longer included in prices. This enables you to compare prices more easily with other sites selling used books. Postage details can be found on-site on the 'Postage, Packing and Payments' page.

  • You can still save money off your orders by registering on-site, and asking your friends to register and mention your login name (not your password). Apologies to anyone whose details were lost during the recent site crash. You will need to re-reigster.

  • Celebrate National Adoption Week - if you know of anyone who is considering adopting, why not suggest they take a look at Indibooks. It's a good place to start finding out about adoption through the range of books on adoption and the links to other sites.

  • The 'Letter from Kenya' continues, and is a good balance of reporting on the positive and uplifting nature of the people Tess comes across as well as the adversity they are faced with. Details should be available soon for anyone wishing to volunteer or make a donation....

  • Christmas is coming ever closer - If you know of a chocoholic, take a look at the Thorton's offer at the foot of the webpage, or maybe you fancy a new T-shirt - you can suggest your own slogan via the Feedback Page if you cannot find one you like on the Gifts and Clothing Site.

  • Suggestions to improve the site or the service will always be welcome. Please e-mail or use the on-site Feedback Form or Poll.
